Railway cops have repeated their warning to children to stay off train tracks after releasing CCTV footage of a group of youths who almost electrocuted themselves on a live rail.

British Transport Police released CCTV images of the incident, which shows three young people enter Addlestone station at 1am on May 5.

It goes on to show one of the youths throwing a bin on the tracks.

The youth then removes a metal ramp used to help wheelchair-bound passengers on to trains, which he also throws on to the tracks.

The group left the station, but then returned just before 2am, when one of the youths climbed on to the tracks and placed the mental ramp on to a 750 volt live rail.

Graham Cottington, BTP schools liaison officer, said: “This incident shows clearly the lengths that youths will go to in order to prove themselves and show-off in front of their friends.”

Already this school holiday period, BTP in the south have received reports almost daily of young people involved train track offences.

PC Cottington said: “As we near the end of the summer holidays, it is important that the message is reinforced to young people to stay off the railway line.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call BTP on 0800 405040 or the witness appeal line on 020 7391 5275.

Stupid stupid children. Only someone with less than half a brain would do something as stupid as this.

What exactly were they hoping to achieve?!

Well, at least they weren't playing chicken on the motorway. Then again - maybe they were. There's nothing to say it wasn't the same people who went out onto the M4 at Port Talbot earlier this month.

I can understand that having the police release the CCTV does away with the hassle and inconvenience of having to bring along a mobile phone and post it on YouTube yourself.
