A huge crater may be dug in Chiswick to make way for a massive underground “super sewer” entrance.
As part of a Government plan to ease the overflow from sewers and to abide by EU regulations, a 32km (20 mile) underground tunnel is proposed between Hammersmith and Beckton to store water in times of excessive rain.
But Hammersmith and Fulham Council revealed last week that Thames Water’s maps show the outlet actually starts in Chiswick.
With Ravenscourt Park and Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith earmarked as two of the possible entrance locations, the council has opposed the £2.6billion sewer and has written to Hounslow Council asking it to join its campaign.
A council spokesman said: “We want all councils to unite against this folly.”
However, a spokesman for Thames Water said plans were only in their most infant stage.
A spokesman for Hounslow Council said a meeting about Thames Water’s proposal would be held in the next few weeks, with a possible plan of inviting Thames Water to the next available Chiswick committee meeting.
