A woman has died after being hit by a train while crossing the tracks at Surbiton station this afternoon.

Police believe she was hit by a fast train travelling from Salisbury to London Waterloo, when she "didn't make it in time" and was hit on the line at about 2.30pm.

An ambulance and fast response car rushed to the scene but she was pronounced dead when they arrived.

The line was blocked for 45 minutes after the incident and although they have now been reopened, there are still delays of up to an hour.

A South West Trains spokeswoman said: "There are delays but we are working towards that decreasing but it's a bit tougher at peak times to do that."

It must be awful for her family to deal with this but I cannot believe what she was doing crossing the tracks!

This caused complete chaos on Friday at Waterloo and although this happens very infrequently (thankfully) people shouldn't risk their lives just to make a train.

I've seen someone do this before at Wimbledon so hopefully it's a message to anyone deciding they want to be on a different platform...

I was on the train that killed this woman and it was a horrible ordeal to have to go through, just for someone not thinking about the dangers of crossing this line, not only has she paid for this with her life, but she has left a lot of people having to live with this for the rest of there lives, the poor train driver and the people that actually witnessed it,and not forgetting the family she has now left behind,

I feel sorry for this woman's family & the witnesses & of course the poor driver.
People are to impatient these days & I feel that this is why Britain is like one of the most stressed & hard working countries. So people rush about to get things done.
But seriously people, nothing's ever that important to risk your life in such a way.
Please, I see so many people running out between buses or in front of them & I cringe at their safety.
The worst is when elderly walk out, if I'm in my car I sit there shouting not to cross, & have got out before to help them.
Just think before you do something like that please people!!
