Keira Knightley has revealed how she overcame pre-audition nerves for her latest film role with the help of a few stiff drinks.
The Oscar-nominated actress revealed to Glamour magazine that she won the lead role in a new film version of My Fair Lady while tipsy.
The 23-year-old said having a drink was the only solution to having to audition in front of theatre impresario and co-producer of the film Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
“It was in front of Cameron himself, so the only option was to get drunk,” she tells the September issue of the magazine. “I probably did slur my words. I can’t remember.”
She will play Eliza Doolittle opposite Daniel Day Lewis as Henry Higgins in the film.
The Atonement star also plans to sing all the movie’s hit songs herself.
Keira, who now has a home in Wandsworth, attended Teddington School and Esher College.
