Stereo MCs headlining summer music festival

Music fans and food lovers will be in for a treat this weekend as the free Croydon Summer Music Festival hits the streets.

On Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 from 1pm until 8pm Lloyd Park will host an array of musical talent from around the globe.

Acts will be wowing the crowds from across five stages: the main stage, acoustic stage, dance stage, community stage and movie stage. Artists performing will include dance favourites such as the Stereo MCs and 90s easy listening artist Finley Quaye.

The headlining acts will perform on the World Party day of the festival on Saturday alongside other world music acts such as Speed Caravan and the Taiko Drummers. Croydon Mela will be celebrated on the Sunday.

Families are welcome to come and will be entertained by street theatre performances, a funfair, kids' area, food village and global market.

The 2008 festival has a particularly worldwide feel as British, Asian and African cultures collide to make a highly enjoyable, multicultural weekend.

Another attraction is a vibrant colourdome. It's a multi-sensory experience of colour, light and sound, where visitors weave their way through the dome filled with musicians in one of many family-friendly attractions.

The event is totally free and is open to everyone. More information on acts and attractions can be found at croydon festival.com or click on the leisure section to read an interview with Stereo MCs.

Jenny Gunston, Croydon Summer Festival manager said: "There is an exciting buzz around Lloyd Park as we prepare for Croydon Council's free Summer Festival.

"Over four stages we will be showcasing some great music from top artists such as Stereo MCs and Finley Quaye, putting on an array of outdoor events including international Kabaddi and offering sneak previews of national street theatre.

"With the global market, funfair, kids' area and good weather predicted, this year's Festival promises to be the best yet."
