Mum causes chip pan fire while half asleep

A mum started a fire in her flat after she accidentally turned on gas under a chip pan instead of a kettle while she was half asleep.

The woman and her young daughter managed to flee the fire, in Kingswood Road, Clapham Park, before two fire engines from Clapham fire station arrived at a about 2.45am.

The fire damaged the kitchen, ceiling and spread to the bedroom above it.

It took firefighters an hour and a half to put out the blaze.

No one was injured in the incident.
