THREE highly-talented lady players are in with a shout at winning the prestigious MCC/Lord's
Taverners Cricketer of the Year, writes Roger Wright.
All three play for Hayes Hurricanes, and they were chosen to be included in the final 36 from hundreds of cricketers around the country by the England Womens' Junior Cricket selectors.
There are two catergories, for under-17s and 19s, and the competition will be held at the indoor nets at Lord's next Monday.
The trio are Lydia Greenway, Natalie Lane and Lynsey Askew. All of them have been training with the England Development squad at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Lydia, 15, played three one-day internationals for the England under-17 side against Holland's World Cup side, which England won 2-1. She had the distinction of making the second highest score in the first and third games.
While playing for the highly-successful Kent under-15 team, Lydia averaged an amazing 103, scoring more than 400 runs. She was top-scorer in the National final against Nottinghamshire with 57 not out, while her highest score was a magnificent unbeaten 124 against Hertfordshire.
Natalie Lane, who is 16, hit her best-ever score of 117 against Middlesex under-17s playing in the same age group for Kent. She was also captain of the Kent under-15 side which won the national title against Nottinghamshire, as well as playing for the county's senior side.
Lynsey Askew, 14, captained the successful Kent under-13 side last season when her top score was 83 against Sussex in a match played at Roedean School.
