A furious woman sickened with the mess and noise from a group of boozy teenage thugs in Rosebery Park took part in a vigilante-style attack and sprayed them with bleach, it has emerged.
The attack took place on Friday, May 9, as the group of 15 and 16-year-old girls celebrated having left school just hours earlier.
Last week we reported how the park had been left covered in litter following the celebrations and residents had called upon the parents of unruly yobs to take control.
One resident, however, took matters into her own hands and confronted the group of Rosebery School students in a moment of exasperation, hurling abuse at the group and claiming that she was fed up with the students making so much noise.
As the group tried to leave, the woman reappeared and sprayed bleach over three of the girls before assaulting a 15-year-old who fell to the floor and received cuts and bruises.
She was later arrested and questioned and is waiting to hear if she will be charged.
Susan Davies, who often walks through the park, said the morning after the incident there were smashed bottles, food containers and torn school uniforms. She said the perpetrators were also abusive and threatening to other park users.
But a mother of one of the bleach attack victims defended her daughter's actions, claiming the teenager had not been drinking or cutting up school uniforms which were found strewn around the park.
"I admit they were probably making a bit of noise in the park but that's because it was their last day," she said. "They had cut up their uniforms the night before but had still worn them to school, they do it every year, it's like muck-up' day. But my daughter returned home wearing hers.
"I'm annoyed that people complained last week saying the parents should take control when my daughter doesn't even drink and was assaulted."
A police spokeswoman confirmed that a 52-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail while officers continue their enquiries.
