Brazen thugs are again terrorising residents on the Longmead estate and, as our chilling picture shows, this time they are armed.

The video footage was captured less than two weeks ago by a resident who spotted a group of five youths racing around the estate on motorbikes. Concerned that someone could get hurt she began filming in the hope she could submit it to police, but was left stunned when she saw one of the feral youths was armed.

"He was shooting at the derelict hospital and was pointing it at houses as well. He was walking through the estate just carrying it over his arm," the resident, whose identity we are protecting, said. "I called the police immediately and asked them whether they wanted me to go out and show the officers the footage, but they said no and that they would try and find them themselves."

"It looked like a shotgun or a rifle. I wasn't very impressed with it really. I think it was probably an air gun because he kept splitting it in half and putting things in the end, so I'm sure it was probably a pellet gun."

The incident began on Sunday, May 4 at 7pm, and, after she contacted the police, officers on the ground and a helicopter hunted for the gang but were unsuccessful.

Nearly two weeks on, the resident had still not heard from officers until the Epsom Guardian contacted them directly.

Epsom and Ewell Neighbourhood Inspector Ailsa Quinlan said: "We are aware the lady who called us took footage of the incident and an officer has made contact with her to arrange a convenient time to view it. I know residents are concerned about antisocial behaviour in Longmead, and I understand their frustrations, however, we are committed to tackling the issue.

"I actively encourage people to report any crime and disorder immediately so action can be taken to deal with it. I would also urge people to continue to attend neighbourhood panel meetings and surgeries.

"The Epsom safer neighbourhood team is working hard to ensure the local community is safe and feels safe, and we are monitoring the situation closely."

WHAT IS THE POINT IN REPORTING ANY CRIME NOWADAYS! THE POLICE SAY REPORT IT THEN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!
OUR POLICE ARE TOTALLY USELESS! THEY ARE NEVER THERE WHEN YOU NEED THEM, AND DO NOTHING WHEN YOU DO! WHY DONT WE HAVE MORE POLICE LIKE THE AMERICAN & AUSTRIALIAN POLICE WHO ACTUALLY DO WHAT POLICE ARE MEANT TO DO!!!!

I agree with Helen, what is the point of reporting anything to the police as they don't do anything about it they don't even attend, then you get a call back 2 hours later asking if the problem is still there, it don't go away on it's own.We have had problems with youths & the boys in blue never attend. What Helen says is what we need the polce abroad will not stand for half of the problems we have

Thank Goodness others being ignored by the the police - I was beginning to take it personally. We too are the recipinets of the 2 hour telephone call to ask if the problem is still there.

I await the yellow boards - shooting.. can you help .

The police here are neither retro-active or pro-active - what we need are some who are actually active. But I don't hold my breath.

i dont know one kid who hasnt fired an air rifle.

and if you are going to use one. firing at derelict hospital is probably the safest thing to do.

but this story is about that boy holding an air rifle not a real gun.

if a kid was walking around with a real gun they would be there in 5 minutes.

you saw what happened to that gun in london a few weeks ago. they shot him dead. they dont mess about when it comes to armed gunmen.

ask yourself this. was anyone hurt?

no. therefore the police made the correct decision in managing their time and therefore actually deserve a pat on the back.

people like you are the ones wasting police time just because you have dennis the mennace in your neighbourhood.

Ric/N30 - an air rifle gun maybe easily recognisable to you, but to other members of the joe public it isnt that easy! the longmead is a dangerous place within epsom and im with the other readers on this - the police are useless, and its becuase nobody wants to deal with whats going on on the longmead and its inhabitants

Even with pictures of them holding a replica firearm in a public place, even with video footage and even with names, nothing will get done. Surrey Police is a joke organisation and nothing will get done if they're involved.
