Noisy neighbour fined

A noisy tenant who plagued his neighbours with late night music and loud television has been ordered to pay more than £1,100 in fines and court costs.

Twayne McPherson was convicted of three counts of breaching the Environmental Protection Act in a hearing at South Western Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that following a number of complaints about late night noise nuisance which were witnessed and verified by the council's noise patrol, McPherson was served with a noise abatement notice.

The notice, which was hand delivered to his flat in Wallis Close on July 26 last year, warned him that if he carried on creating any further nuisance he was likely to face legal action.

But less than three weeks later on August 13, a patroller was called to his address just before 3am following complaints of a noisy television. The patroller called at his door but no one replied.

On September 10, patrollers were again called to Wallis Close at 2am, where they encountered more noise from his flat. This time it was loud music and voices. When the patroller knocked on the front door, no one answered.

Finally on October 15, the patrollers were once again called to his address just before 3am to find the television turned up so loud that neighbours would not have been able to sleep properly.

Again no one came to answer the door.

McPherson was fined a total of £240 for the three offences and ordered to pay £15 to his victims and £887 towards the council's prosecution costs.
