Barrister attacks court delay in manslaughter case

A top barrister has condemned the "injustice" of delays in Old Bailey hearings after a man's retrial for the manslaughter of his daughter was put back by three months.

Prosecutor Ed Brown QC slated the delay of the retrial of Mark Howe, 36, of Wallington, who is accused of killing the 18-month-old girl.

He attacked the "grave injustice" of congestion at the court and said that rather than trying the most serious cases quickly, the priority had changed to keeping courts full every day.

Howe will remain in custody until his retrial begins on August 18.
