A young girl has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a lorry in North Cheam.
An air ambulance, a fast response car and an ambulance were sent to the scene in Stonecot Hill just after 12pm today.
It is thought the girl, who is believed to be aged between two and four, was crossing the road when she was hit by a Merton Council waste collection vehicle.
Witnesses said the little girl and her family had reached the traffic island in the middle of the road when the accident happened.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said she was taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital, Tooting, suffering from back injuries.
Stonecot Hill has been cordoned off and traffic is currently being diverted around the scene while police investigate the accident.
