Leatherhead 1 Molesey 2

Some say football is a funny old game; others would say football is a game of two halves.

I don't think any of the travelling Molesey supporters would disagree with either statement after watching an enthralling game at Fetcham Grove.

Molesey kept most of the squad that got a point at home to Ashford.

New signing Grant Keywood came in to the squad for his debut, but other than that Molesey were fielding the same squad.

The first half started among intermitent rain which will have made playing football a bit trickier, with a much more slippery surface.

Leatherhead started much more dominant and started pressing Molesey back from the first whistle.

Billy Marshall and Lynvall Duncan had good chances in the first 10 minutes, however, both shots failed to test John Ashwood, continuing in goal for the Moles.

Molesey then had their first chance, Chuck Keywood managed to run past the Tanners defence but his shot from very close range was parried by Leatherhead keeper Paul McCarthy.

Leatherhead won a free-kick 30 yards out, played it short across the edge of the penalty box. Stewart Holmes got the ball at his feet, he turned Rob Wilknison and hit a 25-yard thunderbolt into John Ashwood's top-right hand corner of the net.

The rest of the first half was all Leatherhead and it could have been a case of how far behind Molesey were at half-time.

The second half, however, was a different story, just two minutes after the interval Molesey got a corner, Keywood swung it in and the eventual shot by Chico Kadzombe had to be cleared off the line.

This may have been a sign for the rest of the first half.

The game then went a bit quiet, until in the 60th minute when the drama started.

Firstly Molesey got a free-kick 25 yards out, and before the Leatherhead defence was ready Molesey took it, it looked destined for the net but unfortunately the ball bonced back off the woodwork.

Just one minute later and Molesey found their way back into the game.

A corner kick was swung in by Keywood, Wilkinson rose higher than any defender and managed to nod it in at the back post.

Wilkinson looked suitably happy with this as did the Molesey bench who were literally jumping for joy.

The game descended into a frantic scramble both sides were giving everything they had searching for a winner, Molesey who were yet to get that elusive first win, and Leatherhead who are pushing for the play-offs.

At one point Julian Phillips found his way through, but after expertly rounding the keeper he lost his footing on the slippery surface and his attempted finish went just wide.

Then after 83 minutes Molesey found the chance to take the lead, Luke Edghill found possesion behind the Leatherhead defence, all eyes turned to the referees assistant who kept his flag down.

Edghill ran forwards before expertly chipping the ball past the on rushing goalkeeper.

Anyone who doubted this management teams credentials may well have been answered in the last 10 minutes.

Pete Lelliot was up and on the edge of his area yelling and screaming himself hoarse trying to get the nervous Moles through the last minutes, whilst Steve Webb managed to stay remarkably calm when everyone around him was going crazy.

On the pitch however the Moles held out well and did not allow Leatherhead any real chances to equalise.

The final whistle was greeted with Moleseys cheers as finally Molesey registered their first win of the season.
