Students from across Wandsworth Borough celebrated excellent A-Level results last week, as they embark on the next stage of their academic careers.

Across the borough, the number of exams taken increased by 225 and 78 per cent of grades A* to C, which is higher than the national average.

One in four students achieved A* or A grades. Graveney School in Tooting was the highest performer, just ahead of Saint Cecilla’s CofE in Southfields.

One of the standout stories from results day was from Putney High School, where five students will be continuing their education in America.

Among these five is Great Britain athlete, Katy-Ann McDonald. She will go to Louisiana State University on a sports scholarship, after combining her studies with her athletics training.

The GB athlete reached the final of the 800m race at the IAAF World Under 20 Championships in July.

Ernest Bevin College, Tooting Bec, saw an excellent set of results with 73 percent of students achieving one or more A or A*.

Four students achieved all A or A*s in their A-Level subjects. Rukhsana Sheikh – principal of Ernest Bevin College was delighted with these set of results “in a climate of increasingly difficult, linear A-Levels, which feature reduced coursework and the ending of traditional AS exams.”
