A former Sutton Council leader is under investigation by the House of Lords over alleged violations of Parliamentary code.
Lord Graham Tope, who became a life peer in 1994, is currently being probed by the Commissioner for Standards.
This is in relation to “use of facilities, parliamentary advice and declaration of interests”, according to the website.
Lord Tope CBE was a then-Liberal MP for Sutton and Cheam between December 1972 and February 1974 before becoming a councillor.
The 74-year-old was the borough's council leader for around 13 years, between 1986 and 1999, and then later an executive councillor from 1999 until 2012.
There is no further information about the ongoing investigation and it’s currently unclear when it will be concluded, though the last update was on July 31.
Sutton Guardian has approached the Liberal Democrats' Sutton office for further comment.
