Sutton is the second-safest borough in south London – and third overall in the capital – according to new analysis.

It sits behind Greenwich while Tower Hamlets is ranked top in research published by UK price comparison website Compare the Market.

When filtered by crime it remains third, behind Merton (second) and Redbridge, but plunges down to 23rd for property, 26th for healthcare, and 29th for weather.

The statistics in the analysis are based on crime rates, property age, and even the frequency of thunderstorms in the area.

For instance, Sutton has a median ambulance response time of 6.1 minutes, 0.75 doctors per person, and an average house price of £380,297 according to Compare the Market.

In the UK overall, London is 21st – out of 30 – for safest cities to live.

Birmingham, Belfast, Derby, Plymouth, and Manchester comprise the top five.

However, the capital is second for weather, fifth for property, ninth for crime, and 17th for healthcare.

The data for population and housing developments were publicly sourced, while property statistics were taken from real estate portal Rightmove, as at December 2017.

This information was then weighted to create an index score and was gathered in March this year.

Their sources were the Government’s Land Registry database, the Office for National Statistics (ONS), review forum Yelp, the Daily Telegraph newspaper, and property and investing platform LendInvest.
