A Mitcham man who sexually abused three children under the age of 13 over a "prolonged period" has been jailed for eight years and nine months.

Meekumar Issory, 74, was sentenced after admitting to digital penetration, sexual assault by touching, causing a child to watch pornography, exposure, and possession of indecent images.

The offences were committed over a prolonged period against three victims under the age of 13 years at a location in Mitcham. The victims who were all female were known to Issory.

Issory was arrested on November 12 last year during an investigation.

DC Kyla Mulley from the Met's Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command said: "The victims were abused by Issory at a very early age. He abused his position of trust in order to take advantage of them. I would like to pay tribute to the victims who have helped us put this despicable sex offender behind bars.

"I hope today's conviction gives the victims a measure of comfort and closure.

"Issory is a prolific sexual offender and it cannot be discounted that he has sexually abused other people. If you have been a victim of Issory, please contact the Met's Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command by calling 101 and quoting CAD 2625/16MAY18. We have specially trained officers on hand to support you."

Issory was also added to the sex offenders register and issued with sexual harm prevention order, both for indefinite periods of time.
