High profile designers and celebrities came out in force for The One Good Thing Fashion Evening at the Lounge in Twickenham Film Studios in aid of local children’s hospice charity Shooting Star Chase.

Among the well-known names who have pledged their support by donating an array of wonderful pieces for auction were Keira Knightley, Jimmy Choo, Erdem, Burberry, Alexa Chung, Jasper Conran, Bora Aksu and The Duchess of Cambridge’s favoured designer, Susannah.

High Street brands who have also donated include; Monsoon and Oasis, along with new fashion label Wonderlust.

The event, organised by local supporter and celebrity stylist Kerry Nixon, marked the launch of an online auction, where many of the donated items are available to be bid on at the official Shooting Star Chase eBay page, with 100% of the proceeds going to support babies and children with life-limiting conditions at the charity’s two hospices in Guildford and Hampton. The auction will run until Sunday, July 22, at 8pm.

The One Good Thing campaign encourages people to donate one fabulous item to their local Shooting Star Chase charity shop, located over Surrey and West London.

Keira Knightley said: “The work Shooting Star Chase does is extraordinary. If everyone spent just 5 minutes going through their wardrobes to find one pre-loved item to take into their local store the charity would benefit greatly.”

Shooting Star Chase provides support for families across Surrey and 16 London boroughs. From babies to young people up to the age of 21, the charity offers support from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care. This is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year. To maintain this level of care it costs £10 million a year, with just 10% of this coming from government funding.

The event’s curator, celebrity stylist Kerry Nixon, said: “As a stylist, the Shooting Star Chase shops are like a treasure trove to me. This event felt like a great way to spread the word and encourage people to donate items that will make a real difference. What started out as a small project spiralled into a huge event and I’m delighted with the support we received on what was a fabulous evening.”

The venue where the event was held yesterday, July 12, has a very special connection both personally and professionally for Shooting Star Chase Director of Fundraising Development, Karen Sugarman.

Growing up just next to Twickenham Film Studios, Karen often frequented the world famous studios, with her parents and grandparents even featuring as extras for The Beatles classic ‘Hey Jude’ which was filmed there.

Karen said: “It’s a fantastic way to raise funds for Shooting Star Chase and awareness of our One Good Thing campaign and Teddington charity shop. Kerry’s passion has helped create such a buzz, great awareness of our work and has helped us to continue to raise vital funds for families who find themselves in the most unimaginable circumstances. We were also thrilled to welcome our Patron Samantha Bond to the event, who over the last 15 years has been an incredible support to our work.”

The charity’s Area Retail Manager, Ruth Shaw, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled that a member of the local community has dedicated so much time and effort into championing our One Good Thing campaign. The money raised and the publicity achieved will make a huge difference.”
