A Weybridge choir featured on the BBC shortly before England took on Croatia in their first World Cup semi-final clash in almost 30 years.

The Weybridge Male Voice Choir, which was established in 1921, appeared on BBC London News just five minutes before the Three Lions’ match kicked-off.

Flags were waved during a rendition of “Three Lions – Football’s Coming Home”, as many of the performers were aged between 70 and 80 while dressed in England shirts.

Ronan McCaughey, who joined the Weybridge Male Voice Chair roughly 18 months ago, said: “Even I, as an Irishman, was up front proudly holding the England flag and supporting the England team.”

Kieran Trippier scored his first goal for the international team with a stunning free-kick minutes into the match.

However, goals from Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic denied a meeting with France in the World Cup final.

Gareth Southgate’s men will take on Belgium in the third-place playoff match on July 14 at Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.

The Weybridge Male Voice Choir welcomes newcomers to the group, and practice at 8pm every Tuesday at St James' Parish Centre in Church Street.
