A Cheam actress and writer is fundraising £25,000 to help take her play to one of the world’s largest arts festivals in Edinburgh next month.

Having written her first play, Suzanna Walters wants to help tackle important issues which surround anorexia nervosa at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe during August.

‘Eat Me’ is a “dramatic exploration” of three characters’ struggle with the medical condition as they fight to regain their lives from a fourth character, ‘Anorexia Voice’.

The JustGiving page reads: “In an innovative piece of story-telling written from [the] personal experience by Suzanna Walters, this is a hugely compelling insight into the seductive manipulation of this cruel mental illness.

“As their stories weave between present and past, ‘Eat Me’ will shed light on anorexia’s iron grip on the sufferer’s mind, body and soul while bringing a message of hope for recovery.”

Matrix Theatre Company will be performing the piece at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe between August 2 and 27, which lasts an hour and 15 minutes.

However, more funds are “urgently” needed to help cover accommodation, publicity and wages for the actors who will be performing.

They are also seeking a business to sponsor them.

A vintage tea party is being held in Cheam Village on July 21 to help meet the £25,000 fundraising target, with £6,863 having been raised at the time of publishing.
