A LGBT+ group in Wandsworth are in with the chance of winning a share of £21,000 from a Tesco grant community scheme.

To celebrate Pride the supermarket is putting a focus on LGBT+ groups, with the three groups up nominated in London being Free2B Alliance in Wandsworth, the Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre in Camden, and Rainbow Grow in Hackney.

The Bags of Help initiative, which is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, sees the money raised from the sale of carrier bags awarded to local community projects every year.

Voting is open in selected stores in five cities throughout July and August and customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop.

Alec Brown, Tesco’s head of community, said: “To celebrate Tesco’s long-running support of LGBT+ Pride events across the country, the latest round of voting in Bags of Help will put a special focus on the LGBT+ community.

“We are very proud to be supporting a wide range of groups and charities who are doing amazing work to support, empower and celebrate their local LGBT+ communities.”
