An Epsom boxing gym have walked away with a win, loss and draw from their three bouts on the Queensbury boxing card.

Hussein Mohungo, Jack Clarke and Leanne Ball from Gauntlett Boxing Club competed on the Queensbury Boxing League (QBL)‘True Grit’ show, staged at the Effingham Park hotel in Crawley, Sussex on Saturday, June 30.

Mohungo kicked off proceedings as he took on Seb Hallet in a light-welterweight contest. The southpaw controlled the action right from the beginning and received a unanimous decision victory, taking his record to 2-0 in the QBL and the fighter is now targeting a title shot in the near future.

He said: “I’ve done what I’ve aimed to do and I’m hoping for a title shot now, maybe in September, there’s no reason not to get the shot.”

Commenting on Mohungo’s bout, Chris Gauntlett, head trainer at Gauntlett Boxing gym, said: “It was unbelievable, we did exactly what we asked him to do. I think we won all three rounds and I’m looking forward to that title shot which I think we’re due now, we’re cleaning up this division.”

Jack Clarke made his boxing debut facing Connor McGuinness in a three round light-middleweight fight. McGuinness was awarded the split decision, leaving his trainer to admire the competitive nature of the bout.

Gauntlett commented: “It was a cracking bout and we really enjoyed it. I think he dealt with the pressure of fighting a home boxer really well and we’ll come back stronger for sure.”

Leanne Ball took on Gemma Martin in a light-welterweight contest and despite the 25-year-old landing clean shots throughout the bout, Martin had an answer for the pressure and the fight was declared a draw.

She was praised by her trainer, with him saying: “It was a fantastic performance from Leanne. She kept coming forward, we knew Gemma would be a pressure opponent and it was always going to be a good fight.”
