Josh Armstrong has had enough of empty beer cans and half-eaten packets of crisps being dumped in the place he loves.

The Croydon man said with the sun shining, now should be the time when people can enjoy the outdoors.

But what he has seen the past few days made him reconsider that altogether.

"Summer's great and all, but it's shameful and disgusting to walk around your local park only to discover that it's become your local dump," Mr Armstrong said.

"It is supposed to be about enjoying being outside, but lately I'm just disgusted.

"It's genuinely upsetting when you can't walk in the street without keeping a constant eye out for dog faeces, or take a stroll through your local park without discovering it's now a landfill site."

The tipping point came when he took his dog out for a stroll.

"On Sunday, Duppas Hill Park was filled with rubbish as far as the eye could see, and it was clear that the bins weren't even full," he said.

"Empty cigarette packets, beer cans aplenty, large bags of finished crisps, packets of Jammy Dodgers, plastic flying into the long grass and bushes, amongst more delights.

"All available for the local wildlife to choke and suffocate on, very considerate.

"Next to the children's park, there was even an empty condom packet."

Mr Armstrong said he eventually had to take his dog home after he "tried to eat a wet wipe and lick a beer can."

But he hasn't given up hope completely.

He is hoping his scathing words can send a message to everyone around the borough to think before they act.

"If this is how we treat our local parks and public spaces, expecting somebody else to pick it up for us, that says a lot about how we care for each other," he said.

"Shame on Croydon.

"Leaving your trash in public places is the trashiest thing you can do."
