There is a new group in town who determined to clean up Long Ditton, one plastic wrapper at a time.

Sian Headley and Vicki Sharp were two of the founding members of the newly formed 'KT6 litter pickers' and are now looking for others to join the cause.

"The group was established a couple of weeks ago following our disappointment with the high level of litter in our local area of Long Ditton," Ms Sharp said.

"We set up a Facebook page for the group and had our first litter pick event this week, meeting at the tree next to Manny's in the Long Ditton shopping parade."

Initially they weren't sure how many people would show up.

But as the saying goes, if you build it, they will come.

"We were astounded by the excellent turnout of over 30 people with the youngest litter picker being just three months old," Ms Headly said.

"Within just an hour, and a radius of around 0.5km, we collected this huge hoard."

The group is now hoping to make this a more regular occurrence until all the rubbish is gone

"The aim to meet every two-three months," Ms Sharp said.

"If you are interested in helping to make our local area just that little bit nicer, please join our Facebook Page "KT6 litter pickers" and keep an eye out for future events.

"All ages are welcome."
