Richmond Borough have extended a bike share scheme.

The borough launched ofo bike scheme earlier this year and have added 150 ofo bikes.

Councillor Alexander Ehmann said: “Bikeshare schemes provide an easy way for people to cycle without having to purchase their own bikes. This not only benefits the environment but people’s health too and I would encourage people to try out the scheme and get pedalling.

“The first phase of the bikeshare pilot is proving popular – more than 1,750 trips have been taken on ofo bikes in the borough in May.

“At the same time as encouraging residents to take up this useful service, I would ask users to be considerate when parking these bikes. The most common challenge to bike share schemes is inconsiderate parking..”

The station free bike requires riders to register on the app, locate the closest bike and hire it. Once they are used the bikes can me left and re-locked anywhere in the operating area.

The scheme was piloted in April, with 50 bikes placed across Richmond and Twickenham and starts from 70 pence for 30 minutes or £2.90 for an unlimited day pass. Users can also purchase a monthly pass for £9.90.
