The Big Day Out in Wandsworth returned as part of the 17th annual Furzedown festival.

More than 4,000 local people attended the event on Saturday, June 16 at Furzedown Recreation Ground.

Stalls serving international food and drink were well received by residents along with a cake competition which inspired locals to bake their finest cake.

Children were kept entertained with donkey rides and giant inflatables as well as craft demonstrations for the whole family.

Dawn Thomas, chairwoman of Furzedown Community Network said: “This year’s Big Day Out was our biggest and best ever, with over 4,000 Furzedownians coming down to enjoy a day full of great entertainment, food, fun, donkey rides and most of all a celebration of the unique and diverse community here in Furzedown.”

The festival, which runs until Sunday, June 24, has been organised by a group of volunteers from the Furzedown Community Network, a self-funding community group.

Key sponsors of the event include Pearl Chemist Group, Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward estate agents, Savills estate agents; Rose & Crown Public House; Aspire estate agents and Wandsworth Grant Fund and Enable.

Dawn added: “The whole day was put together by the tireless work of the Furzedown Community Network and our group of volunteers, as well as the generous support of our sponsors who make this day possible. The Big Day Out was the highlight of our Festival calendar but they are many more great events to enjoy throughout June and beyond.”
