Are you suffering from football fatigue this summer, but still want you’re dose of sport? If so, then Hampton Court Palace annual jousting weekend could be the perfect escape this July.

The two day event, running July 14 and 15, will give visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a weekend of traditional sports.

The family friendly event will take place in the palace’s gardens where King Henry VIII, his court and knights will vie for glory at this ‘impressive sporting spectacle.’

Visitors will able to experience Tudor music, food and a specially commissioned play throughout the weekend.

Jousting tournaments were the centerpiece of State visits and royal celebrations during Henry VIII’s reign.

The weekend will be opened by a royal procession in the Tudor Courtyards, which will see horses and riders greet the King in a display of pageantry.

The jousting will start immediately and will take place in the Jousting Arena in the East Front Gardens and this will be followed by a battle featuring the knights.

Visitors will be able to see knights battling to be hailed hero by the king, in an ‘epic face off.’

The play will celebrate the re-opening of the palace kitchens and explores the history of feasting in the palace. It will take place in Henry VIII’s Great Hall and visitors will be able to watch Thomas Cromwell prepare from a royal banquet to celebrate the King's marriage to Anne of Cleves.

Admission to the event included in palace tickets, which is free for members and £19.20 for non-members.
