A Wimbledon man has conquered the London to Brighton Bike Ride in honour of his twin brother Jonathan.

David Stretton-Downes took part in Europe's oldest charity cycling event as a way to give back to the British Heart Foundation after his brother underwent six open heart surgeries.

Mr Downes, co-founder of Six Times Open, a campaign which aims to raise £100,000 for the BHF said: "Taking part in the British Heart London to Brighton Bike Ride was such an incredible experience.

"The atmosphere along the route was fantastic and I’m so proud to have been cycling for the BHF’s vital heart research.

"Knowing that I was raising money for such a great cause really spurred me on to the finish line – even on the steep climb up the dreaded Ditchling Beacon."

The 29-year-old completed the ride in just under four hours.
