A group of Coulsdon kids are putting pen to paper in the hopes they might brighten someone's day.

As part of St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School ‘writing for real purposes’ initiative, three year 1 children came up with the idea of creating short stories for sick kids in hospital and would like something to read.

Sofia, Lola and Iris were instrumental in the project, encouraging others in the school to write more in their own time.

“We wanted to help children who are less fortunate than ourselves," Sofia said.

Fair to say that the teachers were blown away when they heard about the idea.

Deputy head teacher of St Aidan’s, Miss Whitmarsh, said: “The children continue to amaze me about how thoughtful and proactive they are about helping others – and at such a young age too.

"This project has been completely thought through by them and a lot of the writing was done in their own time.

"They make me very proud.”
