A Colliers Wood corner shop is facing the end of the road after plans were submitted to turn it into flats.

The planning application would see Capital Food and Wines in 72 Christchurch Road converted so that there is enough space for six people to live.

This would include a full refurbishment of the inside of the shop and an overhaul of the first floor flat.

But not everyone is happy about the plan.

In one objection letter sent to the council, a resident who lives near the proposed development said more flats would only bring bad news.

"Currently with the large amount of flats going up, the tower and just by the Tandem centre, the area is becoming to heavily populated to handle both the transport and facilities, including schools around us," they wrote.

"Crime is at a high, especially in Colliers Wood, adding more homes will only but help this number to increase.

"The area is losing a lot of local businesses due to big corporations, and flats, and its time we invest in the community and help those who have dedicated their time and lives to the community and help small businesses flourish."

But the developers not only think the new flats won't make the area worse, they believe it will add to the street scene.

"The design and appearance of the development will help rejuvenate what is currently a visually unappealing end terrace," a document attached to the application said.

"The proposal would not detract from the overall character of the existing buildings and will sit harmoniously and more sympathetically to the Grade II listed building no.70."
