Kew House Care Home in Wimbledon successfully hosted their first matinee concert at Sacred Heart Church on Edge Hill.

The concert was held to bring the care home closer to the community. It was attended by residents, family and friends from the surrounding area.

The concert organisers invited local musicians to perform and also raised £120 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, which will help toward dementia research.

Lifestyles team leader at Kew House Care Home, Georgina Miller said: “The concert itself was magical. Many of the residents there were living with dementia, but everybody was engaged, happy and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

“We are already being asked when the next concert is!” The event was attended by over 40 people and Kew House are looking to plan another event following the success of this concert.

Wimbledon High School for Girls opened the concert. They sang songs such as ‘I’ve Got Rhythm’ and ‘A Million Dreams.’

This was followed by a performance by the Jigsaw Players’ Concert Series. The group are a chamber and jazz music group and they performed songs from Schubert, Mozart and Beethoven.

Dr Alan Wilson, a resident at Kew House Care Home, 89, said: “I thought the concert was beautiful and the song choices were fantastic.

“The pieces that were performed were some of my favourite classical symphonies and this is a day that I will treasure. It was very special indeed.”

Kew House organised the concert with input from residents, who said they enjoy listening to classical music. It was planned in December following the care homes Christmas with competition, where residents expressed an interest in attending a concert.

Residents wanted to arrange the concert closer to the care home, as it made it easier for them to attend. They also felt arranging it outside the care home would make the day even more special.

Kew House Care Home is part of Hallmark Care Homes, an award winning care provider which was established in 1997.
