Brave Richmond cyclists are attempting a 200 mile journey from London to Paris in just two days.

The 30 'Richmond Riders', who are raising money for Barnes Primary School and charity Me Too & Co, will set off from the school on June 7.

Even for more experienced cyclists joining the group, the 200 mile ride is a daunting challenge.

Mitch Pender, ride organiser, said: "When I decided to organize the bicycle ride to Paris to raise funds for charity, it was important to me that it would benefit children across the borough.

"As a parent of children who attend both Barnes Primary and Me Too & Co, I couldn’t think of a better charities that would use the funds to directly impact children’s lives."

Me too & Co is an independent charity providing free support and activities in Richmond upon Thames for children with additional needs or disabilities and their families.

Jennifer Peters, chair of Me Too & Co, said: “As a parent of Barnes Primary School and as the Chair of the Board of Me too & Co I am delighted to be part of this fundraising team.

"All the money raised will go back into ensuring our children reach their fullest potential and their families are supported as they journey through the world of disability and additional needs.

"Activities like Pedal Project where life skill learning can be delivered in an adapted and supportive way make all the difference to the lives of our children."

Mark Hartley, Barnes Primary School headmaster, is a man on a mission to support needy children throughout the Richmond community.

Flanked by parents from Barnes Primary School and Me too & Co, Mark and his band of cyclists hope to get through the challenge with camaraderie.

Local and national companies have supported the cyclists: Chesterton’s Estate Agents helped with the ride jerseys, and Sainsbury’s are keeping them fed and watered along the way.

As a finale to the fundraising, the Richmond Riders will be hosting a 'Welcome Back' party on June 15.

Ryder Cup golf tickets, a team autographed Fulham FC jersey, and a bottle of House of Commons whisky - autographed by the Prime Minister - will be available to bid for in the auction on the night.

The auction event is open to anyone who can support the charities and help raise money for these two worthy causes.

The Richmond Riders camaraderie over the past few months; the training, planning and commitment, have seen friendships created.
