The skies above Richmond Hill looked straight off a horror film in these dramatic pictures by photographer Martin McHugh.
In one perfectly time shot, lightning strikes what appears to be the distinctively sharp steeple of St Matthias' Church.
With a week dominated by what meteorologists referred to as "the mother of all thunderstorms", the UK was struck by lightning between 15,000 and 20,000 times.
