It is now two trophies in three years for a group of footballers from Cleves School as they ran away with the EFL Kids Cup on Sunday.

The group of schoolkids represented AFC Wimbledon at the Wembley final and raced out to a 3-0 lead at half-time.

From there it was all but over for South Failsworth Primary, as AFC Wimbledon maintained the clean sheet for a 3-0 victory.

The school's teacher, Mr Smith, said it was a wonderful moment for all involved.

"We had a game-plan, which was executed perfectly, but most importantly they enjoyed their football and you can see that in how they played," he said.

"We've been very lucky and this is our second time at Wembley, so it creates an ethos around the school. The other schoolchildren see these boys playing at this level and they want to be part of it.

"The competition format is fabulous and the EFL have been great from the word go, as have AFC Wimbledon who have supported us all the way. It's an excellent competition and to finish it off at Wembley is amazing."

In 2016 the school also lifted the cup.

This time around it was Oliver Swetman who opened the scoring for the team.

He was over the moon about the result.

"It's amazing," he said.

"Wembley is one of the greatest stadiums in the world and it's a dream to score there with so many people watching me."
