Plans to build 128 homes on the Wandle Road Car Park have taken a big step forward.

In December last year a planning application was submitted to build part 5, 22 and 25 storey tower blocks on the council-run car park for 255 vehicles.

Now a decision date has been set for June 7 and the case officer has already given his tick of approval.

In a report prepared for the meeting, the officer said the "significant" amount of affordable housing was a big part of his decision.

"This proposal would only use part of the site and would not prejudice the delivery of the energy centre and some on site bus standing," he wrote.

"Other sites are being actively considered for additional bus standing.

"The site layout has been developed to ensure that all three uses can be accommodated on site satisfactorily."

In total 47 per cent of the homes will be classed as affordable and although there will only be ten parking spots (all disabled), there will be 214 cycle spaces.

The planning committee will now vote next week to give the final say on whether the tower blocks get the go ahead.
