Wallington South councillor Steve Cook has been appointed the Mayor of Sutton for the 2018/19 municipal year following the council’s annual meeting this week.
The Liberal Democrat member, who has lived in the borough for nearly 40 years with his wife Pauline, was announced in the role on Monday (May 21).
He takes over from Cllr Jean Crossby and will be joined by Cllr Chris Williams who will serve alongside him as Deputy Mayor of Sutton.
Cllr Cook, 64, said: “To be elected to this important office is a great honour for me and my family.
“I am very much looking forward to representing the London Borough of Sutton and promoting its best interests.”
The 2016/17 Mayor of Sutton Cllr Crossby, who currently represents the St Helier ward, was also thanked for her time in the role alongside Cllr Marlene Heron during the annual meeting.
Two charities have also been chosen for this municipal year, which are St Helier Kidney Fund and Home Start Sutton.
Cllr Williams, of the Carshalton Central ward, said: “This will be a wonderful opportunity to have the privilege of meeting the many residents, who in a multitude of ways, contribute to the wellbeing of the borough.”
