For 12-year-old Scarlett Hewitt, the difference between being able walk or being dependent on her wheelchair all comes down to money.

The Croydon girl and Crystal Palace fan was born eight weeks early and had to be resuscitated because she wasn't breathing on her own.

This led to a brain bleed which forced her to undergo open heart surgery at just two weeks old.

Despite the success of the surgery, she was left with cerebral palsy.

Years later she dreamt of one day being able to walk on her own

But because the selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery she required was not available on the NHS, the family was forced to raise £65,000 to fly Scarlett to America.

Miraculously the money was raised and Scarlett had the surgery.

But ultimately the success of the operations depend upon whether or not she continues private physiotherapy treatment and hydrotherapy which cost £100 per hour session and physiotherapy courses in Wales that vary from £400 to £1000 per course.

"Because we have reached our target for Scarlett's operation and there are a number of events still yet to take place, our friends and family that are fund raising for Scarlett all want her to benefit from the money they raise," a post on the fundraising page said.

"Therefore we have been advised to up our target so that the money raised for Scarlett will go towards her ongoing rehabilitation program, a therapy cabin/physio room and any other therapy/exercise equipment that she may require in the future.

"The amount of physical therapy that Scarlett will require after her surgery is just as important, if not more so, then the operation itself."

So to help raise the money, on June 9 the Two Brewers pub in Gloucester Road will be holding a world cup party, with proceeds to go towards Scarletts rehab.

There will be a barbecue and face painting for three hours from 2pm and at 5pm a replay of the England v West Germany world cup final will be shown.
