More than 10,000 people visited Whitton last Saturday to celebrate St George’s Day in the glorious sunshine.

Hundreds of people paraded down Whitton High Street in a “blaze of red and white”.

The annual parade, organised by Love Whitton, featured local youth groups, scouts, guides, schools and nurseries.

Also parading were the local police, Harley Davidson motorbikes, Scooters, classic cars and military vehicles.

Once the parade was over the revellers were treated to three stages of entertainment, fairground rides and stalls.

Radio Jackie were hosting the community stage featuring dance performances from Dansicality, O’Conner School of Irish Dance, Twickenham School and Michou Dance.

At the other end of the High Street, surrounded by Harley Davidsons and Scooters, the Basement Door open mic stage hosted the choirs from Heathfield and Chase Bridge Schools along with a poem recital from the children of Nelson School, followed by a day of performances from all comers.

The main stage in the middle of the High Street, hosted by Abracadabra Sound & Light, entertained with a day of live music including The Robin Bibi Band, The Jo Burt Experience, the Richmond Music trust and some local bands.

The star performance came from Joji Hirota & the London Taiko Drummers.

The audience was “totally spellbound” by the “sheer volume and theatre” of more than 30 drums being played in “perfect harmony”.

The event was sponsored by local companies Abracadabra Sound & Light, Mantle Financial Planning, The Golden Grill Restaurant & Milestone Residential, Squirrels Nursery, and was supported by a large number of local businesses.
