There was a spate of thefts in Epsom last week, with a handbag and a wallet stolen from two shoppers.

An elderly lady had her handbag stolen at around 11.00am in Epsom on Friday, April 20.

Another woman had her wallet swiped from her handbag in Waitrose, The Ashley Centre, the previous day at about 11.10am.

A man was caught on CCTV putting his hand into the bag and police are making enquiries as to his identity.

One victim lost £500 to the thief.

Both investigations are still ongoing, it’s not yet known if they are linked.

Epsom and Ewell Police said: “In the meantime, especially with the warm weather, we advise everyone to keep your personal belongings close, particularly around shopping and, although not in these occasions, while sunbathing or out in the parks over the weekend.”
