Wandsworth residents are invited to join a free Multifaith Community Walk in Tooting.

The tour will include visits to mosques, churches and temples of different faiths and will give attendees the opportunity to find out more about the community.

The walk is on Sunday, May 13 at 3pm, beginning at Tooting Parish Pump in front of St Nick's Church, junction of Church Lane and Mitcham Road.

The Tooting Islamic Centre on Upper Tooting Road which was once the location of 1930’s cinema ‘The Mayfair’, and Idara-e-Jaaferiya Mosque on Church Lane, which was the original Tooting parish school, will be explored in the tour.

All Saints Church, one of the most ornate in south London and often compared to a cathedral will be included in the walk. The acoustics in the church are world-renowned and Paul McCartney chose it in 1999 to record ‘A Garland to Linda’ a classical music tribute to his late wife Linda McCartney.

Participants will be welcomed into the buildings and there will be an opportunity to greet faith leaders.

Along the tour, there will be commentary on the historical places being passed and refreshments will be provided at the last stop.

Organisers say the day will be a great chance to meet people of different beliefs and go behind doors that are sometimes closed to the community.

The walk is being organised by the Balham and Tooting Community Association and Summerstown182, a community history project.

Everyone is invited to attend the free tour on Sunday, May 13, beginning at 3pm.
