Wandsworth residents are being encouraged to sign up to a local community choir.

The choir is a chance to make friends and enjoy learning a range of songs from Stevie Wonder to Handel.

The initiative is being led by Wandsworth Music Service and Lifelong Learning, and organisers are looking for 100 people to take part, with 60 having already enrolled.

The idea was inspired by teachers and parents of children in younger choirs who desperately wanted an opportunity to take part in singing.

Debbie Huie, singer strategy leader at Wandsworth Music, said: “It’s a choir for anyone and everyone. You have just got to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.”

It has been designed for adults over 18 and will hold its first session on Wednesday, May 2.

The choir will meet every Wednesday at Hillbrook Primary School, Hillbrook Road from 7:30pm until 9:30pm during term time.

The first group performance is on Wednesday, July 4 at Burntwood Academy, where Wandsworth Music’s year six to year nine choir will also be performing.

Places are limited and you must register beforehand.
