A special educational needs school in Wandsworth has received £1,000 from a Tesco funding scheme.

Oak Lodge School, Nightingale Lane, was given the money through Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative.

The school provides education for pupils aged 10 to 19 who are deaf or have speech, language and communication needs.

They will use the funds raised to support a community wellbeing day project and to supply more external providers who assist with the weekly ‘Feeling Good’ sessions with yoga, dance, Tai Chi, making healthy food, counsellor-led sessions and one to one therapies.

Derek Kitchin, Executive Headteacher at Oak Lodge School, said: “We are so grateful for the support of our local community.

“In difficult financial times for the private and public sector we appreciate greatly any additional funding that allows us to enrich and extend the opportunities and outcomes for our students.”

The money was raised through Tesco’s and Groundworks scheme Bags of Help, which sees grants raised from carrier bag sales being awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp.
