Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a 32-year-old man died following an assault in Morden town centre.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 10.17pm on April 17, after staff suspected that a collapsed man in London Road had been assaulted.

The 32-year-old man was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition. He died at 11.45pm yesterday (April 20).

His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem will be held today (April 21).

Officers have established that the victim was involved in a fight with a man in the street.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, April 20 and taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.
