A man has been taken to hospital after being hit by a train this afternoon.

Southern Rail tweeted at about 3pm today (April 19) that "due to emergency services dealing with at incident at East Croydon, services through this station are currently subject to disruption."

Now a spokesman for British Transport Police has confirmed that they were called to South Croydon station to deal with the incident.

"We were called at 2.46pm at South Croydon railway station following reports of a person struck by a train," he said.

"A man has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be serious at this time.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Southern has also said that due to the man being hit by a train, as well as a separate issue with a faulty signalling system, that cancellations and delays should be expected to continue until about 7pm.
