Surbiton Hockey Club has won £250 after a public vote which rewards good causes in the borough.

The scheme, which was launched by developer Taylor Wimpey in February, is a monthly initiative where visitors to Tolworth Square are invited to vote for one of three local good causes to receive the prize.

The club, which received the most votes in February, provides sporting facilities for the local community and currently has approximately 1,000 players aged six to sixty.

Many of its players are recognised at international level and represent the UK in various competitions.

This year the club has been selected as the venue for the Women’s EuroHockey Club Cup, which will take place in May.

Suresh Desai, club president at Surbiton Hockey Club, said: “We are always looking for sponsorship in order to help us develop our club and facilities, so we were really pleased to discover that we’d received the most votes in the donation box scheme.

“We are grateful for the support that we have received and would like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey.”
