A block of disused public toilets which have been out of use for 15 years is being redeveloped into a café.

Out of use since 2003 because of vandalism and anti-social behaviour, the building will now be gutted out and refurbished for a 20-capacity facility.

New windows will also be installed while the redevelopment of Sutton Green will include provision of new playground equipment, refurbishment of the existing area, an outdoor gym and cycle stands.

Peter Scouse, secretary of the Friends of Sutton Green, said: “We’re delighted to see this building being put to good use for the local community to enjoy.

“We hope the additional gym and playground equipment will make this a place that families and individuals can enjoy for many years to come.”

The Sutton Local Committee was awarded public realm capital, as well as S106 funding, for community facilities in the Sutton North ward.
