Young sporting enthusiasts are encouraged to once again help Epsom & Ewell punch well above its weight in the Surrey Youth Games.

Last year so many of you applied that even as the smallest borough we had the biggest team.

In 2017, a record number of 560 seven to 16 year olds took part in free coaching and Team Epsom & Ewell ended up being 222-strong.

Councillor Barry Nash, chairman of the council's community and wellbeing committee said: "Your borough needs you!

“The Games offer young people a unique opportunity to try a new sport, take part in free coaching sessions, make new friends and experience competition in a fun and supportive environment.

“We hope many young people will sign up for a chance to be part of Team Epsom & Ewell at this prestigious sporting event."

The sports on offer are badminton, boccia (a precision ball sport with wheelchairs), boxing (contact and non-contact) cricket, football, hockey, judo, lacrosse, High 5 netball, netball, touch rugby, squash and tennis.

Free training sessions take place from April to June; register as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

Those that make the team will compete with teams from ten other Surrey boroughs and districts at the final weekend in on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June.

All sports only allow players of sub-county standard to participate and in many sports participants must be non-club members.

If you are too old to compete in the Games and would still like to be involved, you can volunteer.
