A Coulsdon school has reason to celebrate after its students were found to be some of the top performers in the country.

Oasis Academy Coulsdon has won a Schools, Students and Teachers Network (SSAT) educational outcomes award after it placed in the top 20 per cent of schools nationally for progress in the 2017 GCSE exams.

Principal of the academy, Andrew Booth, was delighted by the news.

"The students worked extremely hard and secured the excellent results that they deserved, enabling them to move on to the next stage in their education or to begin their careers on the front foot," he said.

"Our staff come to work each day determined to provide all of our young people with the opportunities that they deserve to make great progress, and they should be proud both of their students’ results and of this award."

This year the 114 GCSE students at the academy had an average Progress 8 score of +0.35 (this score shows how much progress pupils at the school have made between the end of the primary education and their secondary education in eight core subjects compared to other pupils nationwide). This score placed the Academy in the top 10 of secondary schools in the wider Croydon area.

In a letter to the Mr Booth, the chief executive of SSAT, Sue Williamson, congratulates the school for their "excellent performance" and for "going above and beyond" for their students.
