Film-goers at Richmond Odeon said they were left feeling short-changed after the sound system allegedly failed.

Disgruntled customers claimed they were not offered a refund or vouchers after the screening of Lady Bird, on Friday February 23.

Nicholas Harling, a freelance journalist, was one of the customers at the Odeon who said his evening was ruined by the debacle.

He said: “The sound dipped out and it just got worse and worse.

“A couple of people sitting on the aisle went to complain and someone fixed it, but then it reverted to being just as bad as before.

“Quite a few of us complained afterwards and we were asked to leave our names, then we got an email saying there was going to be no refund.

“It’s absolutely abysmal PR, what do they lose by dishing out a refund? They couldn’t have handled it worse in my opinion.”

An Odeon spokeswoman said: “We always want our guests to have a great experience with us – however at a screening of Lady Bird in our Richmond cinema recently, we were made aware of an isolated issue with the sound levels for some guests.

"The volume was adjusted for the rest of the screening, and our team made regular checks throughout the remainder of the screening to make sure the sound was satisfactory.

"We want to ensure all our guests enjoy their time at our cinemas, so have offered those affected guests passes so they can return to ODEON when it next suits them.”
