A group of young people from Clapham created the perfect Valentine’s treat for their friends and family and even got the chance to work in a professional kitchen.

Teenagers aged 12 to 16 from Providence House Youth Club in Clapham were given access to Platform 1 cafe to create a three course Valentine’s meal for locals, parents and volunteers.

The youngsters planned, decorated and hosted a total of 25 guests giving them the opportunity to experience first hand the workings of a professional restaurant.

Since the new year, the group of teenagers has been learning to prepare and cook the meals they would serve on Valentine’s evening.

They wanted to create a ‘youth-run restaurant’ and said that if things went well they would like to make it a regular thing, opening it up to the wider community.

Food was donated to the club so the costs could stay low and then the customers were asked to pay just £2 to enjoy the Valentine’s dinner.

Platform 1 is a daytime cafe run by The Camden Society who train adults with learning disabilities in hospitality and catering.
